The Looney Tune They Tried To Bury: My Film Review of “Coyote Vs. Acme”
“Meep! Meep! Meep! Meep! Meep!” out of “Meep! Meep! Meep! Meep! Meep!” Stars!
May we all be grateful to Ketchup Entertainment for saving the life of what is probably the best Looney Tunes feature film in a really, really long time. Take that, Warner Bros. and their attempt to use a tax write-off to bury this laugh-out-loud funny legal comedy with a ton of looney antics for everyone to enjoy.
In Coyote vs. Acme, based on the magazine article of the same name by The New Yorker, Wylie E. Coyote is still in his everlasting pursuit of capturing the Road Runner, but once he learns that he can sue the Acme Corporation for the faulty products that he’s been using for his mission, he enlists the help of a live-action billboard attorney to help him, leading to the discovery of much more darker secrets hidden beneath the surface. Will Forte, Lana Condor and John Cena make their live-action characters’ interactions with the Looney Tunes themselves so believable as how Robert Zemeckis made Bob Hoskins’ interactions with Roger Rabbit did so back in the 80s, and the numerous appearances from other iconic characters like Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, Granny, Tweety, Foghorn Leghorn and the one and only Bugs Bunny make the experience feel more nostalgic.
We need to make sure this modern-day “David vs. Goliath” story becomes a box office hit this coming weekend, even when a certain “orange unicorn from a forthcoming horror film that premiered at Sundance” is also hoping for the same kind of commercial success. Coyote vs. Acme is indeed one of the year’s best films, and one you’ll indeed see on my top 10 this year.
